What programs do you use?
I love using Procreate on my iPad to sketch and brainstorm! And when it’s ready for the final piece, depending on what I’m doing I will either finish it in Procreate or I’ll bring the image into Adobe Illustrator and finish it there. My last job helped me become very comfortable with Illustrator and I’m finding myself using it more and more often!
Do you use a drawing tablet?
I actually have three drawing tablets (if I don’t include my iPad) that I switch between depending on the job. My workhorse is the Wacom Intuos 4 XL that I’ve had for 7 years now. I use Wacom’s Intuos Medium Wireless tablet for on the go work or for very simple editing. And lastly I have a Huion Kamvas that I sadly don’t use often enough.
How has your style changed?
You wouldn’t believe it if I told you a decade ago I was creating nothing but macabre and creepy art. But I found myself being impacted by the feelings of my pieces. When I drew dark and moody things I found myself just as dark and moody. In hopes of lifting up my spirits I bit I started to draw the things that brought me the most joy and it spiraled into the cutesy colorful work you see today.
what do you wish you could change about the art world?
One word- gatekeeping. It might be surprising but the artist community is very competitive and it’s more common than not for artists to keep their tips and tricks under lock and key. I’ve always openly shared my resources and my experiences because as artists we need to support each other in a world that views us as unessential. I want to be the person I needed when I first broke into the art world.
What is your preferred medium?
It comes as no surprise that I work primarily as a digital artist. I’m someone who changes their mind constantly and working digitally allows me to edit and adjust a piece further than other traditional media. But with that being said, I still love traditional art. I’m constantly on the lookout for new things to try. I just got a case of gouache and I’m so excited to try my hand at it!
